An Austrian Music Theatre Award winner for Best Young Male Artist, the Northern Irish baritone Timothy Connor is a versatile performer, distinguished by the expressive richness of his voice and a compelling stage presence.

His work in contemporary music theatre includes the world premieres of Lliam Paterson’s BambinO (Scottish Opera/Manchester International Festival; later at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, and the Metropolitan Opera, New York), Harris in Fabián Panisello’s Die Judith von Shimoda at the Bregenz Festival and Neue Oper Wien, and Kotey in Charlotte Bray’s American Mother at Theater Hagen. Other significant roles include Kelvin in Dai Fujikura’s Solaris and the Baritone in Philip Venables’ Denis & Katya at the MusikTheater an der Wien.

In the 2025/26 season, Timothy joined the ensemble of Theater Freiburg, where his roles include Oppenheimer in John Adams’ Doctor Atomic, Oreste in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, and the Narrator in David Lang’s one-man opera The Loser. He also makes his debut at Theater Bern in the world premiere of Salvatore Sciarrino’s L’Agamemnone. A house debut at Theater Basel follows next season. 

At the MusikTheater an der Wien, his appearances have included Graf von Liebenau (Der Waffenschmied), Prinzessin Sherifa (Hamed und Sherifa), Willem/The Lawyer (Der Prozess), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), and Gregorio (Roméo et Juliette). At the Nationaltheater Mannheim and MusikTheater an der Wien, he performed Blazes/Officer 2 (The Lighthouse), and with English Touring Opera he sang Angelotti (Tosca). Other engagements have taken him to the Landestheater Linz as Tarquinius (The Rape of Lucretia) and to Oper Wuppertal as Dancairo (Carmen). His repertoire further includes roles such as Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), the Father (Hänsel und Gretel), Sid (Albert Herring), Licaone (Giove in Argo), and Hel Helson (Paul Bunyan).

 

His first CD recording, as Graf von Liebenau, was released by Capriccio with the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien under Günther Groissböck. He has also appeared at the Barbican Centre in Iain Burnside’s A Soldier and a Maker, and as Frank (Die Fledermaus) alongside Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Sir Thomas Allen in a production by John Copley. In concert, Timothy has appeared with Roger Vignoles in Schubert’s Winterreise, at the London Song Festival, with the Schubert Society of Great Britain, and in recital with Simon Lepper on the International Artist Platform. Most recently, he toured with the European Baroque Ensemble in Mozart by Candlelight.

He trained at the International Opera School of the Royal College of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. He was a Britten Pears Young Artist, a Les Azuriales Young Artist, and a Help Musicians UK scholar. He gained his first professional stage experience at the opera studio of the Landestheater Linz and as a member of the Young Ensemble at Theater an der Wien.
