Timothy Connor, a kind of Stanley Kowalski character with a powerful voice, thrills as Laurent.

Winner of an Österreichische Musiktheater Prize for Best Male Newcomer, Northern Irish baritone Timothy Connor is a compelling interpreter, noted equally for the expressive range of his voice and his striking stage presence.
His work in new music has included creating roles in Lliam Paterson’s Bambino (Scottish Opera/Manchester International Festival; later Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris and The Metropolitan Opera, New York), Harris in Fabián Panisello’s Die Judith von Shimoda at the Bregenzer Festspiele and Neue Oper Wien, and Kotey in Charlotte Bray’s American Mother at Theater Hagen. Other prominent contemporary work includes Kelvin in Dai Fujikura’s Solaris and the baritone in Philip Venables’ Denis & Katya at MusikTheater an der Wien.
In the 2025/26 season Timothy joins the ensemble of Theater Freiburg, singing Oppenheimer in John Adams’ Doctor Atomic, Oreste in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, and the Narrator in David Lang’s one-man opera The Loser. He also makes his debut at Theater Bern in the world premiere of Salvatore Sciarrino’s L’Agamemnone, and his house debut at Theater Basel will follow in a forthcoming season.
At MusikTheater an der Wien his roles have included Graf von Liebenau (Der Waffenschmied), Princess Sherifa (Hamed und Sherifa), Willem/Der Advokat (Der Prozess), and Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), as well as Gregorio (Roméo et Juliette). He has also sung Blazes/Officer 2 (The Lighthouse) at both the Nationaltheater Mannheim and MusikTheater an der Wien, and Angelotti (Tosca) for English Touring Opera. Other appearances include Tarquinius (The Rape of Lucretia) at Landestheater Linz and Dancairo (Carmen) at Oper Wuppertal, as well as Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Der Vater (Hänsel und Gretel), Sid (Albert Herring), Licaone (Giove in Argo), and Hel Helson (Paul Bunyan). His recording debut as Graf von Liebenau has just been released on Capriccio with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and Günther Groissböck. He has also appeared at the Barbican in Iain Burnside’s A Soldier and a Maker, and sang Frank (Die Fledermaus) alongside Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Sir Thomas Allen in John Copley’s production.
On the recital platform Timothy has appeared with Roger Vignoles in Schubert’s Winterreise, and at the London Song Festival, the Schubert Society of Great Britain, and in recital with Simon Lepper at the International Artist Platform. More recently, he toured with the European Baroque Ensemble in Mozart by Candlelight.
He trained at the Royal College of Music’s International Opera School, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Trinity Laban Conservatoire. He was a Britten Pears Young Artist, a Les Azuriales Young Artist, and a recipient of a Help Musicians Postgraduate Performance Award. He began his career with the Opera Studio at Landestheater Linz before joining the Junges Ensemble at Theater an der Wien.
